TubaChristmas was last Monday, before xmas, in Austin. Since it's rather an informal thing - 180 unrelated brass players with a volunteer conductor who has never met any of them before - it is an occasion to indulge. As the group wanders from the rehearsal hall the two blocks over to the Capitol steps, it honks and hoots randomly, stopping traffic, and especially the over-decorated sousaphones tend to bring cars to a screeching halt. Then after the concert, everybody goes their own ways, not necessarily back to the hall, but off to wherever they parked. This results in reverse drive-by brassing: ambulatory tuba and euphonium players crossing streets and playing INTO the windows of cars stopped at traffic lights. It's fun.
